Mad Max: Fury Road has been without a doubt the dark horse of this movie season. Seemingly universally loved and making solid gains at the box office we’re poised to get more MAD MAX in the future.
But why was this movie, with such a simple plot, so revered by everyone who as seen it?
The secret is in the editing. While it is a fast paced wild ride the film abides by certain rules that govern it visually that make it a consistent experience throughout. This is different than the wild jump cuts and seemingly random visuals you get from, say, a modern Michael Bay film for instance.
It’s a fascinating revelation and explains why someone such as myself, who hates “shaky cam”, fell in love with the style that this movie brought to the table.
