Ever want to get a glimpse of how visual effects are put together to create the reality of the world we are watching on screen? Let’s have an inside look at Chappie, Neill Blomkamp’s most recent action film.

With Imagine Engine, we get to see how Chappie, the robotic main character and his other robotic counterparts are brought to life. By using actors to create their fluid movements and then pieced together layer by layer with special effects, we get a taste of what it takes to create the final droid product and their environment. We even learn that the explosions and broken glass we thought were real were created digitally and carefully chosen to capture the desired intensity. No matter how big or small, pronounced or subtle, special effects are everywhere whether we know it or not. They are after all, increasingly necessary the farther out we go in creating reality out of fiction. In addition to a good ol’ fashioned solid performance, special effects are what can make a movie truly unforgettable.

That’s movie magic, baby.
