It seems like it’s been in the works for years but FOX’s attempt to reboot/remake Escape From New York just got some positive news. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Neil Cross (creator of BBC series Luthor) is writing the script.

The Reporter also mentions that original director John Carpenter is “creatively involved” and is executive producing. Fox is hoping this relaunch will be a huge hit like their relaunch of Planet of the Apes. In addition, they are hoping it can spawn sequels.

Luthor is on Netflix and I recommend it highly. Assuming Fox likes Neil’s treatment, expect a cast announcement of the lead to play Snake Plissken (played in the original by Kurt Russell ) soon.
