When I got wind that Marvel’s Luke Cage was going to have a hip-hop soundtrack and be scored by hip-hop producers, I was gassed. I was even more excited when I learned that the title of each episode was going to be named after a song by the classic hip-hop duo Gang Starr. What began as hip-hop variant cover homages last year has now translated into a dramatized love-letter. With the series taking place away from Hell’s Kitchen and firmly-planted in Harlem, it’s a much-needed change-in-scenery from a cultural perspective.
