If you have been paying attention to Action A Go Go in even a passing manner you know that Mad Max: Fury Road is coming.
And it’s bringing bad ass action back to the big screen with it. Everything from the trailers to it’s 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes has me excited.
But this is Great Moments In Action History, and this is all about taking a look back at what makes action movies so great. And between the trilogy that is Mad Max (1979) , The Road Warrior (1981), and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) it is the middle child that is the simplest, and perhaps purest of the bunch in terms of plot.
But that does not mean that the filmmaking on display is sub par. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. Below we are featuring the scene where the main villain, Lord Humungus, tries to make an offer to the settlers for their gasoline, the black gold that rules all in the world of Mad Max. What would usually be a straight forward “I’m the villain here me roar speech” is actually turned on it’s head. As he drones on seemingly everything else is paid attention to except him. Underlings laugh. People are screaming. Fights break out. This isn’t a group of men, but a pack of animals, and the editing prowess on display turns what could be a boring scene into managed chaos. It also to gives depth to characters that could have easily slipped into the background.
This is a real testament to the craft that director George Miller wields and will bring once again to Mad Max: Fury Road.
