It seems like Daniel Craig likes to change his mind on whether or not he will return as James Bond. Just last week he was quoted as saying “I’d like to keep going as long as I’m physically able to” and even point blank saying “I am contracted to do one more”. Now he’s quoted as saying “Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” as well as “That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.” Online, people are already pointing the finger and “fancasting” a replacement.
I get that Craig is burned out. There were reports that he injured himself doing a stunt that required a delay in shooting. There’s also the very short shooting window. Filming began in December of 2014 and didn’t end until July of this year. Most big tentpoles films take at least a year or so out and have a good 12 months to edit and work on effects. Now here I know they were editing on the spot as teasers were released when the film was nowhere near done filming.
My personal take, Craig is burned out and wants a break and these movies take a lot out of him. Given that Craig is on record as saying he’s contractually obligated to do at least one more, MGM will weigh their options in like 2 or 3 years. In the newest interview he’s quoted as saying “I’ll only do another one for the money”. Since he’s contracted for one more, I’m not sure he can try and ask for more $ (or £, ’cause it’s the UK). Whatever the case is, if I’m a betting man, Craig will be back, it may be a few more years but he’ll be back
Check out the final trailer below. Spectre hits Nov. 6th.
