Movie editors. No one talks about them, no one celebrates them, and people have a tenuous understanding of what they do at best. That is, until Tony Zhou get’s in there and shows us just how much editing can make or break a film.

The vehicle for this lesson is his series Every Frame A Painting. We have featured his work before and I cannot stress how illuminating this can be for any cinefile. He takes deep dives into parts of films that most people overlook and helps you actually see what you’ve been looking at the whole time. It’s marvelous, and the below video features a close look at movies like Ant-Man, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back, and others. So let him take you on a deep dive into the dark arts of film making so that you can discover what editors have known all along. It’s only a matter of time.
