Ever since reading Robert Rodriguez’s Rebel Without a Crew in high school I’ve become a sucker for tales of real life artistic obsession. Maybe it’s because this subject highlights unbelievable (and utterly insane) stories of personal drive and ambition. Maybe it’s because I’m as guilty of enjoying potential trainwrecks as anyone else. Or, quite honestly, maybe it’s because they remind me of myself (**shudder**).
Recently, Vice put together an amusing documentary short about former software salesman turned filmmaker James Nguyen. It is a bizarre and admirable look at James and his one claim to fame: The extremely low budget Birdemic.
