Waterworld. Nigh on 25 years after the release of this movie in 1995, it is still shorthand for “boondoggle” of epic Hollywood proportions. Originally a b-movie rip off of The Road Warrior (A.K.A. Mad Max 2) this Kevin Costner action vehicle still holds a place in my heart. I was a fan of his movie Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves (I did a brief retrospective here) and watched this picture with bated breath when I was all of 10 years old. Of course, it went on to be a legendary Hollywood disaster that proved that no amount of money can make a movie “good” or “a hit.”
The mysteries of this movie have eluded me for decades, until now. JoBlo Videos does an INCREDIBLE job going over the history of this beautiful disaster, from its spec script roots up to its legacy as one of the biggest action movies nobody asked for.
