As the announcement came down yesterday afternoon that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will be moving their 2016 summer tentpole, Superman v. Batman: Dawn of Justice, away from a head-to-head with Marvel’s tentatively titled “Captain America 3” (from May 6, 2016 to March 25, 2016), WB also unleashed a list of mystery dates to go with it. That list follows…
August 5, 2016 — Untitled DCE Film
June 23, 2017 — Untitled DCE Film
November 17, 2017 — Untitled DCE Film
March 23, 2018 — Untitled DCE Film
July 27, 2018 — Untitled DCE Film
November 16, 2018 — Untitled “WB Event” Film
April 5, 2019 — Untitled DCE Film
June 14, 2019 — Untitled DCE Film
April 3, 2020 — Untitled DCE Film
June 19, 2020 — Untitled DCE Film
November 20, 2020 — Untitled “WB Event” Film
While the majority of these appear to be based on DC heroes (and doesn’t seem to sync up with Nikki Finke’s leaked release schedule), it’s important to note that the “Untitled WB Event Film” could very likely be another Harry Potter series. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if another Lord of the Rings film isn’t far behind, as well. (The Silmarillion?)
As for Dawn of Justice, I think neither studio would’ve benefited from a box office pissing contest. While I’m certain that Warner Bros. always intended to change BvS‘s date after successfully working us all into a frenzy, they also had to recognize that two films dividing the exact same demographic on the exact same day does more damage to both studio’s ticket sales than anything.
