John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) is the definition of cult classic. It’s a tremendously unique film underappreciated in it’s time that has gone on to have a second life all it’s one. A defining aspect of that second life is how special effects define the film. It’s a smorgasbord of ingenuity and craftsmanship that has new generations riveted by its execution and makes us long for the days when CGI wasn’t used as the default choice for every movie when something “special” is needed.
Thanks to the hooligans at Cineflix we can take an even closer look at one of the movies wildest scenes. I am talking about the defibrillator scene, second only to ALIEN in terms of raw “WTF am I watching!” gore and craziness. If anything, I would bet good money that Carpenter was trying to one up Ridley Scott with this scene, but I digress.
If you haven’t seen The Thing I suggest you DON’T watch this video, and instead stop what you are doing, check it out, and then come back and watch it. If you have, enjoy the vid below and feel free to tell us about the first time you saw this movie in the comments.
