The trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2 was released a few days ago. It got me excited because it contained elements that guarantee staggering drawing power from viewers: Explosions, fight scenes, cars, women, snippets of witty one-liners, and music. Music is an essential part of action movie trailers as it provides a backdrop that either reflects the content of the trailer or may give it an ironic juxtaposition. When the Watchmen trailer debuted in late 2008, it utilized “The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning” by the Smashing Pumpkins. I had never heard the song before, but was in awe of how it was used in the trailer. As such, I went looking for the mp3 and found it. The song from the John Wick: Chapter 2 trailer is a high-energy hip-hop track titled “Battle Royale” by Apashe featuring Panther. With a choir sample, energetic 808s, and Apashe’s vocals, its high-octane feel certainly goes with the trailer and has sparked curiosity in its listeners. Listen to it below:
