Recently, Road Tunes Reviews and I sat down to discuss the music utilized in The Departed (2006), Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning classic crime drama about the Massachusetts State Police and Boston’s Irish mob. Like Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995) before it, Scorsese makes use of several popular and obscure songs across genres. Additionally, the manner in which he uses the music is a testament to the quality he brings to the table as a director. Listen below as Andrew and I converse about the Rolling Stones, Nas, the Beach Boys, and Jack Nicholson’s barely-there Boston accent.
