The Black Panther made his on-screen debut in Captain America: Civil War (2016). Played by Chadwick Boseman, the character’s inclusion in the film led to rumors of Marvel Studios producing his own solo movie. The rumors turned out to be true, as news of the casting and choice of director was released to fanfare. Scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 16, 2018, Black Panther will star Boseman as the title character (real name T’Challa). With his father’s murder in Civil War, T’Challa returns as king to their homeland of Wakanda. He is forced to step up after an adversary thought long gone threatens Wakanda and the world. The protaganist, Killmonger, will be portrayed by Michael B. Jordan. Danai Gurira (as Okoye), Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis (as Ulysses Klaw), and Sterling K. Brown also star in the film. Lastly, Ryan Coogler will direct the film. Coogler was also the director of Fruitvale Station (2013) and Creed (2015), both of which also starred Michael B. Jordan. The trailer, with Serkis as the interrogated villain and Boseman as both the reluctant king and hero, has the sonic backdrop of “Legend Has It” by Run the Jewels. Check it out below.
